Tools Needed
• Pavers
• Pavers base
• Sand
• Compactor
• Masonry saw
• Level
• Rake
• Gloves
Step 1: Preparation The swimming pool should always be installed firstly by professionals because it acts as your guideline. This is because you will pave around the area around the pool. Once this has been done, you can then begin to make the soil smooth using a rake, ensuring that it is flat and level. Further excavation may need to be carried out to ensure that the depth of the area is at least 10 to 15 cm deep.
Step 2: Compaction Compaction should take place after excavation. This will make certain and prepare the soil. A compactor brings all the soil together making it very smooth and compact and ready for the paver base. A fabric sheet known as a separation fabric may be used for the base to be applied on top.
Step 3: Preparing the Paver Base Depending on which type of pavers you have chosen to use as your pool pavers; it will depend on what type of base is most suitable. Some common types of paver base used are:
• Cement
• Crushed stone
• Crushed pavers
• Sand
• Mortar
• Rubber Hammer head
Start mixing the base. After the base is mixed it then needs to be applied onto the levelled out ground starting in small sections. A base of approximately 5 cm should be laid out.
Step 4: Laying the Pavers You’ve selected a creative pattern. Purchase a pattern grid which will help and guide you to installing the pavers in the right pattern.
It is always recommended to start laying pavers in a left to right order and starting in a far corner so you work your way backwards. Laying the pavers one by one in a continuous line. String may be set before you start to lay the pavers to guide you to paving in a straight line. Pave the area and use your pool as your guideline. As you install a paver use a soft hammer head to ensure it is compacting and level onto the base
Step 5: Cutting the Pavers Use a marker to mark out the shape that your paver needs to be cut in. Using a masonry saw cut the pavers into shape. It may be recommended that the cutting blade is wet when cutting the pavers into size.
Step 6: Filling in the Joints Sand is the best material to fill in the gaps. Start by using a broom and sweep the sand over your paved pool area several times making sure the sand is completely in place.
